Vul. Valova, 14 – residential building ID: 1022
Residential building (1887–1888) on the corner of Valova Street and Halytska Square. Built according to the design of architect Wincenty Kuznewicz as an apartment building for owners Francis Kobielski and Michał Walichewicz. In 1905, it housed the M. Kachkovsky Cultural and Educational Society, and in 1926–1932, the editorial office of the Sel-Rob newspaper. At the end of the 19th century, the Central Coffee House was located on the first floor.
Architecture
Built in the Art Nouveau style. Four-story, brick, complex in plan, the first two floors are plastered, the next two have exposed brickwork. The interior layout is sectional. The composition of the main facade is asymmetrical. The semicircular corner volume of the entrance part of the building is completed at the roof level with a helmet-shaped dome, and the side parts of the building adjacent to it are completed with triangular pediments, with the dates of construction 1887–1888 on the fields. At the level of the third floor, on each of the facades, there are two balconies on molded consoles. The first and second floors are rusticated; the first with decorative rustication, the second with linear rustication. Between the first and second and second and third floors, there are profiled cornices and console friezes. The building is topped with a massive cornice with molded consoles and garlands.
The building is illuminated by windows with profiled frames. The windows on the first floor are semicircular, finished with keystones; on the third floor, the windows are decorated on both sides with Ionic pilasters and at the top with linear and triangular pediments. Under the windows of the third floor, there are molded decorative inserts.
The monument is a characteristic example of Lviv residential architecture of the late 19th century.
